Kasson washer and dryer repair, old homes and new
Kasson has two very different housing stocks, and they produce two different sets of laundry problems. Older houses near the historic center usually have the washer and dryer in the basement, with a long vent and a utility sink. Newer homes and townhomes on the edges of town tend to have main floor laundry with high efficiency front loaders, often stacked in a closet.
Older basement laundry
Basement dryers in older Kasson homes often vent through a rim joist or a basement window well. Window well vents fill with leaves and snow, and long runs with flexible foil duct sag and collect lint. Those dryers take two cycles, run hot and blow thermal fuses. Washers in these basements sometimes drain into a laundry tub; if the hose is not secured, it can slip and flood the floor during the drain.
- Replace foil or vinyl vent duct with rigid metal
- Clear window well vents of leaves and snow
- Clip the washer drain hose firmly to the tub or standpipe
- Check that the standpipe is tall enough to prevent siphoning
High efficiency front loaders
In newer Kasson homes, the most common washer calls are drain errors from clogged pump filters, door lock faults and odors in the door seal. Front loaders spin very fast, so an unlevel machine on a main floor can shake the whole room. Adjust the feet until the washer does not rock, and lock the nuts.

Stacked units in townhomes
Stacked pairs in closets need enough clearance for airflow and a short vent. If a stacked dryer is slow, check the duct behind it first; it is easily crushed when the stack is pushed back. Repairs on the lower washer sometimes require lifting the dryer off, which we plan for when you book.
